THE QSA2025 BUTTONS

As part of our celebrations for our fifth anniversary we have replaced our finalist medals with a limited edition button collection, in collaboration with Liverpool artist Sophie Green. She moved to Liverpool in 2008, embracing the city, its culture and herself - much of Sophie’s work is a love letter to Liverpool. It’s where she found her style and began to live her life on her terms.

In addition to the ‘Queer Power’ design we have commissioned, Sophie has added a finalist pin using our design and one of her own existing Liver Building PRIDE buttons to the collection of three. All finalists attending the final at The Royal Liver Building will be gifted theirs on arrival, and are encouraged to wear them with proud throughout the evening and beyond.

WHY CELEBRATE WITH BUTTONS?
A button is a message pinned on the body, designed to appeal to anyone passing by. The first mass-produced political buttons date to the end of the nineteenth century and have commonly been used by LGBTQ+ activists and rights movements to rally support, ranging from the humorous to the deadly serious. Because of their small format, many people collect buttons, aggregating them on vests, hats and jackets. When pinned to the body they can effectively be used to ‘read’ someone’s political interests.
