TOP TIPS
FOR PREPARING NOMINATIONS
Although the questions that each person nominating is now asked to answer are the same, the FOCUS of each category differs. Pay attention to the category descriptions and ensure that you are entering the category which your evidence best aligns to.
The judges will be looking for your ability to answer the 3 QUESTIONS on this website and to provide evidence which is relevant to each question and the category.
It’s always great to see enthusiasm for winning one of our awards, however, each entry received should be unique. Someone can be nominated more than once in a category by multiple people, but you should not enter multiple categories using the same nomination.
We have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for plagiarism, and we expect anyone entering the awards to submit their own work, in their own words. Words which we can prove have been copied directly from other sources will not be passed to the judging panel.
Not everyone who identifies with being LGBTQ+ wants to be a visible member of the community, and some may not yet be out publicly. If you are unsure about whether someone is out and/or how they might react to being nominated then please discuss your intention to nominate them first.
It’s worth asking other people to help you gather evidence for your nomination. They might know more about additional evidence that addresses the questions and the category focus.
Previous winning entries clearly demonstrated how the individuals and/or organisations were having a positive impact . This was easier to judge when data and/or quotes were included that clearly showed how the LGBTQ+ community and/or young people were benefitting from the work done.
Avoid waffling and write in short sentences. Use paragraphs, headings and/or bullet points to make the nomination easier to read.
Don’t forget about the minimum and maximum length of entries - anything submitted below/beyond these will not be judged.
A maximum of 5 relevant pieces of supporting evidence can be included per entry. These might include: links to social media posts or other online content such as specific webpages; photographs; relevant videos - you could even consider including a timestamp for relevant evidence for longer videos; quotes from other people; and report extracts, news articles or published research.
Once you have submitted your nomination you will not be able to edit it. Ensure that you are 100% happy with your entry, and that what you have written is accurate and true before you press ‘SUBMIT’.
This might sound obvious but also make sure that your entry is submitted by the deadline. We can not accept any late entries.
